Version 1.8.0

18 October 2026 · la version proposée aujourd'hui

New

  • Group by shows its titles in every view. *Today*, *Yesterday*, *Earlier this week* and the other titles used to show in Details only: in the icon views and List the files were just sorted, with nothing to say where a group began. Each group now has its title there too. In the icon views a title fills a line and each group starts on a new line; in List it sits between the names. A title is not a file: you cannot select it or open it, the arrow keys step over it, and Select All and the status line count files only.
  • Choose how many files Recents lists. Options › Left panel has a new box, from 1 to 50 files.
  • Choose how tall the pinned part may grow. The pinned part of the left panel took at most 60 % of the panel. Options › Left panel now lets you set that share, from 20 to 90 %. It is still only as tall as its rows when they take less.

Changed

  • Recents lists 10 files, not 15, to start with. It is a shorter list to scan, and it leaves more room for the sections below it. Set the box in Options › Left panel to 15 to have the old list back.

Version 1.7.0

11 October 2026

New

  • Recents, at the top of the left panel. The 15 files you changed last, newest first, under a caption for each day (*Today*, *Yesterday*, *Earlier this week*...). A click shows the file's folder, with the file selected. The list comes from Spotlight, so the app opens none of your files to make it, and macOS asks nothing new about Desktop, Documents or Downloads.
  • Choose which sections the left panel shows. Options › Left panel has a box for Recents, Quick access, Locations and Tags. All are on to start with. This Mac and the Trash always show.
  • Put the sections in the order you like. Drag a section's name up or down, or use Move up and Move down in its right click menu. The Trash stays last, and every window follows.
  • Pin a section. Click the pin beside a section's name: that section and every section above it stay on show in a top part that is as tall as its rows, while the others scroll below it. Click the pin again to take it off.

Fixed

  • The tmp folder shows in the left tree. On Macintosh HD, tmp, var and etc are links to folders. The file list showed them and the left tree left them out. The tree now lists a link to a folder as a folder, hidden ones included when you show hidden files.

Version 1.6.1

8 October 2026

Fixed

  • The folder colour looks the same on every Mac. On a MacBook Neo the orange folders came out pale, and with the Graphite folder colour of macOS they came out grey, while the same orange was strong on other Macs. The colour you pick in Options › Folders now keeps its strength, whatever System Settings › Appearance › Icon, widget & folder color says. On a Mac where it looked right already, it looks the same.

Version 1.6.0

1 October 2026

New

  • The update window says when a new version needs a newer macOS. Each version now names the oldest macOS it runs on. When your Mac has an older one, Help › Check for Updates... says which macOS the new version needs and which one your Mac has, and offers no install. The check at start says nothing about it.
  • Report a Problem links to the known problems. Just above its buttons, a line opens a page of www.wizit.org that lists the problems already known and what to do about each, then the questions that come back (an Intel Mac, Full Disk Access for the Trash, the questions macOS asks about Desktop and Documents). An answer that is written there need not be sent by mail. The link opens in your browser, and the app sends nothing.

Changed

  • macOS 15 Sequoia or later. From this version the app needs macOS 15 or later: the version of Qt it is built on asks for it. On macOS 13 or 14, keep 1.5.0 and do not install this update: macOS would not open it.

Fixed

  • On a Mac whose macOS is too old, macOS says so, and the app no longer starts and stops with no word. The app now names the oldest macOS it runs on, so macOS itself refuses to open it on an older Mac, with its own message.

Version 1.5.0

30 September 2026

New

  • Sort by, as in Windows: View › Sort by, or right click empty space › Sort by. Pick Name, Date Modified, Kind or Size, then Ascending or Descending; a tick shows the choice. It works in every view, the icon views and List too, which could not sort before, and in the search results. A click on a column of Details does the same, and the ticks follow it. The folder keeps the sort, as it keeps a click on a column.
  • Hidden and Locked in Properties, as the attributes of Windows: two boxes under the dates. Hidden takes an item out of the list while hidden files are not shown. Locked, Finder's word for Windows' Read-only, keeps an item from being changed, renamed, moved or put in the Trash until you unlock it. With several items, one box of each acts on all of them, half ticked for a mixed set. The window now has OK, Cancel and Apply, as in Windows.
  • Mail and Messages, next to AirDrop in a new Share menu: a new mail or a new message opens with the files attached, and you write and send it there. The app itself sends nothing.
  • Original Location and Date Deleted in the Trash, as in Windows' Recycle Bin: Details shows where each item came from and when it went, right after the name. Click one to sort by it, or pick it in Sort by. Restore now also puts back what Finder put in the Trash, where it came from; before, it knew only the items the app had trashed.
  • A clearer name clash question, as Windows' *Replace or Skip Files*. When an item you paste or drop has the name of one already there, the question shows both side by side: the icon, size and date of each, and which one is newer and which is larger. For several items, Decide for each file... lists them all, with a tick on each side: tick the one you copy to replace, the one there to skip, or both to keep both, and the new one gets a number. Skip files with the same date and size leaves those as they are.
  • Download now and Remove download for cloud files, as in Finder and OneDrive. Right click an item in iCloud Drive, Google Drive or OneDrive: Download now brings a file with the cloud mark to this Mac, a folder with all it holds. Remove download frees the space: the copy on this Mac goes, the item stays in the cloud and gets the cloud mark. A file the cloud has not uploaded yet keeps its copy, and a message names it. The app asks macOS, and macOS talks to the cloud.
  • More types in New ›, as in Windows: right click empty space › New, or File › New, also offers the documents the apps on this Mac make. A Rich Text document with TextEdit; Pages, Numbers and Keynote documents; Word, Excel and PowerPoint files with Microsoft Office or LibreOffice; OpenDocument files with LibreOffice. No Word, no Word document. The new file is selected, and Undo takes it away.
  • A Templates folder, as in Windows: a file you put in it shows in New › by its name, and a new item is a copy of it. New › Open Templates folder opens it.
  • Drag a tab out to make a new window, as in Windows 11 and the web browsers: drag a tab up or down out of the tab bar, and let go. It opens in a window of its own there, the size of the old one, with its folder, its view, and its Back and Forward history. Drop it on the tab bar of another window instead, and it moves there; the only tab of a window takes its whole window there. Esc puts it back.
  • Window › Merge All Windows, as in Finder: the tabs of every other window come into the one in front, and the others close.
  • Finder tags, as in Finder: an item with colour tags shows small coloured dots after its name, in every view and in the search results. Right click items › Tags to add or take off a colour or another tag of the folder, or Edit Tags... to type a new one; Undo puts the tags back. They are Finder's own tags: Finder, Spotlight and other apps see what you set, and the app shows what Finder set.
  • A Tags column in Details, and columns to show or hide: right click the header of Details for the list of its columns, as in Windows. Tags is off to start; the folder keeps your choice. Click Tags, or pick it in Sort by, to bring the tagged items to the top.
  • Search by tag, as in Finder: type tag:red or tag:"Project X" in the search box and press Return, and you get the items with that tag under the folder. tag:red invoice finds the items that have the tag and *invoice* in their name.
  • A Tags part in the left panel, under Locations, as in Finder: the seven colours, then the tags the app has met, up to 20. A click on one shows every item with that tag in your home folder.

Changed

  • Finder shows the app as WizMac Explorer. Applications, Get Info, Launchpad, Spotlight, the Dock, Cmd+Tab, Open With and the window of the download show that name, and no longer wizmac-explorer. The file is still wizmac-explorer.app, in the same place, so an update lands where the old version was, and the permissions you gave stay. The message windows and the Full Disk Access steps use the same name.
  • A long name keeps its type when it is cut. Where a name is too long for its place, the end of the name went, and the type with it: *Annual report for the fin…*. Now the cut comes before the type: *Annual report for th…zip*. In Details, List, the icon views and the search results. A folder has no type, so its name is cut at the end, as before. Options › Folders › Keep the type when a long name is cut turns it off.
  • AirDrop moved into Share. The right click menu and the File menu have Share › where AirDrop... was, with AirDrop..., Mail... and Messages... in it.
  • File › New. The File menu has New › where New Folder and New Text Document were, with the same list as the right click menu. Cmd+Shift+N still makes a new folder. The name a new file gets is selected up to its type (.txt), so a name you type at once keeps it.
  • The tab bar is always there, with one tab too, as in Windows 11, and each tab shows its × in both themes. The × of the only tab closes the window.
  • The dark theme is easier to read. The tab on show stands out from the others, the address bar and the search box have a field of their own, the search box's hint reads, and the left panel is a step lighter than the file list. The light theme is as it was.

Fixed

  • The Trash folder is never deleted, moved or renamed. With hidden files shown, .Trash in your home folder (or .Trashes on a disk) is a row like any other, and it got the menu of an item in the Trash: Restore, which finds nothing, and Delete permanently, which erased the whole Trash, folder and all. It now has the menu of the Trash, Open and Empty Trash. Delete, Backspace, Cmd+X, F2 and a drag with the move key leave it alone and say why.
  • A Quick access row made for an app opens the app. A click on such a row (added in an earlier version, when the menu still offered it for an app) went inside the app as into a folder, and a middle click opened a tab there. It now opens the app, as Finder's sidebar does, and a middle click opens no tab.
  • A Rich Text Document with pictures has Open with. An .rtfd is a folder to the disk, and its menu had no Open with, as a folder's has none. It has it now, as in Finder, and a double click opens it in its app.
  • A big folder in List view and a right click on many files are quicker. The List view read the tags of every file from the disk each time it laid the folder out, and a right click read the tags of every selected file: 20 000 files made the window wait. The List view now reads a file's tags when it draws that file, and the right click menu of more than 2000 selected files shows the ticks of the tags it has seen; a click on a tag still changes every one of them.
  • A search leaves out a folder you made Hidden, in Spotlight's answer too. With hidden files off, a search of a folder shows what Spotlight finds, and Spotlight did not know about the Hidden flag of Properties: an item with it, or an item inside a folder with it, still showed in the results. They now stay out, as they do in the file list, until you show hidden files.
  • Restore Defaults no longer turns the update check off for good. It switched off *Check for updates* and never asked again, so a Mac that had said yes stopped getting updates without a word. It now leaves that answer as it is, and puts back the rest.
  • One folder that cannot be unpacked no longer stops an extract. A folder in a zip with the name of a file of the same zip, or with a name that is too long, ended the extract there, and the files after it were not unpacked. It is now named in the message, and the rest comes out.
  • The date groups start the week on your region's day. *Earlier this week* and *Last week* always began the week on Monday, whatever your Mac's region says. On a Mac set to the United States, where the week starts on Sunday, they now start it there, as the rest of the app follows your region.
  • An app is one item, as in Finder. A double click or Return on an app went inside it, as into a folder, and files dropped on it were copied or moved into the app, which can keep macOS from opening it. A double click now opens the app, and files dropped on it open with it, as in Finder and Windows. Its right click menu no longer offers Open in new tab, Terminal here, Paste into folder, New Folder here or Add to Quick access, and the folder tree of the left panel no longer lists apps. A document that macOS keeps as a folder, such as an .rtfd, is one item too: it opens in its app, and files dropped on it go to the folder on show.
  • Delete in the Trash no longer loses where an item came from. Delete or Backspace on an item in the Trash put it in the Trash again, under a new name, and the app forgot where it came from: Restore then moved it inside the Trash. In a Trash these keys now ask to delete for good, as in Windows' Recycle Bin, with Cancel as the default.
  • A move with Replace onto a folder keeps the old folder in the Trash. Moving a folder onto one of the same name with Replace erased the old folder for good, with every file in it that the new one did not bring, and Undo did not bring it back. The old folder now goes to the Trash, whole, and Restore puts it back.
  • A locked file moved to another disk stays where it is. The move left a locked copy on the other disk that nothing could remove, and said only that the file was not moved. It now copies nothing, and says the file is locked.
  • Closing Properties never ends the app. Properties of a big folder, of a network disk or of *Macintosh HD*, closed while the size was still being counted, could make the whole app quit at once, every window with it. The count now goes on out of sight and ends by itself.
  • Properties of a disk counts that disk alone. The size of *Macintosh HD* in Properties also counted every other disk and network place connected to the Mac, and took long. It now counts the one disk.
  • Rename, Restore and shortcuts work on a USB stick made for Windows. On a stick or an SD card in exFAT, the format Windows uses, Restore could not take an item out of the stick's Trash, and a rename of several, the Rename box of the search results, Create shortcut and Paste shortcut said *Operation not supported*. They work there now, and still never replace another item.
  • A file path typed in the address bar selects the file, as Windows does. The folder opened and the file opened in its app, but the file was not highlighted in the list when its folder had not been read yet, which is most of the time. It is now.
  • A tab you let go on another app's window stays yours. If a Finder window (or any other app's) lay over the tab bar of a second window of the app, a tab dragged out and let go there went into the window under it. It now becomes a window of its own, as anywhere else.
  • A cell that is cut short tells you what it says. In Details, a Kind, Size or Date Modified cell cut at the width of its column (*Plain Text Docum…*) now shows the whole text when you rest the pointer on it. A cell that fits shows nothing.
  • A cloud file's name is not cut for its cloud mark in the List view. The widest name of a column, on a file kept in the cloud, lost its end to make room for the mark that follows it (*report …txt*). The item is as wide as the name and the mark now.
  • The Open with list names the apps as Finder does. In French, German, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese it said *Preview*, *Books* and *ColorSync Utility*, the names of the files, where Finder says *Aperçu*, *Livres* and *Utilitaire ColorSync*. It uses Finder's names now, in the list, in Always open with and in its question.
  • Properties writes the Kind as the rest of the app does. A text file read *TXT file* there and *Plain Text Document* in the file list, and an app read *Folder*. Properties now has Finder's words, *Plain Text Document*, *PDF document*, *Application*, in your language.
  • A long path in Properties is cut in the middle, not run off the window. On a path wider than the window, the Location, Points to and Full path lines ran out at the right and were cut without a sign (*Chemin comple*). They now show the start and the end of the path, joined by …, so the folder it ends in shows; the tooltip and Copy (Cmd+C, or the right click menu of the line) give the whole path.
  • No false alarm after Copy in About or Report a Problem. If you closed the window a moment after pressing Copy version info or Copy report, the app could note an error that was not one and show the Report a Problem mark. It no longer does. Each About and each report window is also freed once it is closed.
  • A folder you made Hidden is hidden in the left panel and in searches too. After Hidden in Properties, the folder left the file list but stayed in the tree of the left panel, and a search still looked inside it. They now leave it out while hidden files are not shown, as they do a name that starts with a dot. Show hidden files brings it back everywhere.
  • A locked item tells you it is locked. Rename, Delete permanently and Move to Trash said *Operation not permitted*, and F2 did nothing at all, on an item you had locked in Properties. They now say *b.txt is locked. Unlock it in Properties first.*, also for a locked file inside a folder you delete.
  • The cloud mark shows only on files kept in the cloud. In a cloud or network folder (Google Drive, OneDrive, a shared disk), every folder and every link showed the cloud mark, downloaded or not. Now a folder shows it only when macOS says it is in the cloud, and a link never does.
  • Restore no longer mixes up two items of the same name. If an item left the Trash in Finder (Put Back, or Empty Trash there) and another item with the same name went in later, the Trash still showed the first item's folder in Original Location, and Restore sent the new item there. A note now knows which item it is about. And Restore leaves alone a name that a copy or a move in progress is about to write, where it took the name and made the copy stop with *already there*.
  • A big delete, copy or move is quicker, and the window answers while it runs. The progress window used to redraw once for each file, which took a third of the time and made the window slow to answer. It redraws about ten times a second now. Deleting 60 000 files takes half the time.
  • A sort by Size no longer freezes the window. In a folder with hundreds of subfolders, the window stood still for about two seconds after you sorted by Size, or clicked the Size header, while the app counted the folders. The counting now starts its helper programs much faster, and the window keeps answering.
  • Show hidden files works at once in a folder you have already looked at. Before, turning it on or off with Cmd+Shift+. or the right click menu changed only the folders you opened afterwards, and Refresh did not help.
  • New Folder and New Text Document select the new item, as in Windows. The code always meant to; the selection came too early to find the item, so nothing was selected.
  • A paste, a drop, a move, a zip and an extract select what they brought, as in Windows and Finder. Before, the list was left with no selection, and the one you had was gone. A drop on a sub folder leaves your selection alone, and a pick of your own is never taken back.

Version 1.4.0

27 September 2026

New

  • The app notices its own problems. When something goes wrong while it runs, a mark shows in the status bar: Report a Problem.... After a crash, the next start opens the report of it. The report says where it went wrong in the app, without the names of your files, your folders or yourself: a path becomes <path>.pdf. You read it, change it if you want, and send it by e-mail with Copy report or Open Mail App. The app sends nothing by itself.

Fixed

  • Quit and Reopen in System Settings, after you give the app another language, works while Options is open. It did nothing until you closed Options. Options no longer blocks the rest of the app, as the settings window of any Mac app: the file windows stay in use while it is open, and Cmd+, brings it back to the front.

Version 1.3.0

27 September 2026

New

  • The app speaks French. It follows the language of macOS: put French first in System Settings › General › Language & Region, or give it to this app alone under Applications there.
  • The app speaks German, as a German Mac does: *Ablage*, *Papierkorb*, *Systemeinstellungen*. It follows the language of macOS in the same way.
  • The app speaks Italian, as an Italian Mac does: *Modifica*, *Cestino*, *Impostazioni di Sistema*. It follows the language of macOS in the same way.
  • The app speaks Spanish, as a Mac in Spain does: *Edición*, *Papelera*, *Ajustes del Sistema*. A Mac set to Latin American Spanish gets it too.
  • The app speaks Portuguese, as a Mac in Brazil does: *Arquivo*, *Lixo*, *Ajustes do Sistema*. A Mac set to the Portuguese of Portugal gets it too.
  • In each language, the home folders show the names Finder gives them: *Bureau*, *Téléchargements*, *Schreibtisch*, *Scrivania*. A rename and a typed path still use the real name.
  • Options › General names the language the app speaks. Its button Change in System Settings... opens Language & Region, where you can give the app a language of its own.

Changed

  • The WizMac Explorer menu names Options *Settings…*, as macOS does since macOS 13, and *Réglages…*, *Einstellungen …*, *Impostazioni…* or *Ajustes…* in the other languages. It said *Preferences...*.
  • Counts read right: *1 item* and *2 items*, not *1 item(s)*, in the status bar, the Edit menu, Properties and the messages.
  • Sizes and dates follow the region of your Mac: its decimal mark, its thousands mark and its month names. On a Mac set to Switzerland, Properties writes *1'536 bytes*.
  • A message about a file that could not be copied, moved or deleted names the file and says why in plain words, *a.txt: Permission denied*, without the error number and the whole path.

Fixed

  • A shortcut shows the picture of what it points to, with the small arrow, as in Windows: a PDF's page, an app's own icon, a folder in your folder colour. It showed a blank page or the Terminal's.
  • The Kind column says what Finder says, in macOS's words: *PDF document*, *Plain Text Document*, *Application*. It said *Portable Document Format* or *text/plain*. The search results use the same words.
  • The Size column writes *244.1 KB*, as the status bar does, not *244.14 KiB*.
  • A name typed in the address bar opens that item of the folder you are in: Photos, notes.txt, ../Music. It was read from another folder, and *Cannot open* named a path you never typed.
  • A search of your home folder leaves ~/Library out, as Finder does: the files of other apps no longer hide yours.
  • Search results no longer show a sort arrow on Name while they are in another order. They come in the order they are found; a click on a column sorts them.
  • One flick of the wheel with Cmd held no longer runs through several view modes in a big folder.
  • Properties shows the whole Location line, not only its start.
  • A folder whose name holds an & shows it in the › list of the address bar: *Rock & Roll*, not *Rock Roll*.
  • Options › Shortcuts shows a long line whole, on two lines, where it ended in *…*.
  • Apps show their own icon in the file list, the search results and the left panel, not an orange folder. Only plain folders take the folder colour. A link to an app, as Safari in Applications, says *Application* in the Kind column, not *Folder*.

Version 1.2.0

26 September 2026

New

  • View › Apply to All Folders makes every folder look like the one you are in, and View › Reset All Folders puts every folder back to Details, sorted by name. Options › Folders has the same two buttons.
  • Right click a file or a folder for Create shortcut, as in Windows: a shortcut named Report.pdf - Shortcut appears next to it. It is a macOS alias, so Finder shows it with its arrow, and it still finds the original after a move. A double click on a shortcut opens the folder or the file it points to, and the Kind column says Shortcut. Properties shows the place it points to.
  • After Copy or Cut, right click empty space or a folder for Paste shortcut: it makes a shortcut there to each item you copied, and leaves the clipboard as it is.
  • Right click files or folders for AirDrop..., as *Nearby sharing* in Windows: the macOS AirDrop window opens with them, and you pick a device nearby. File › AirDrop... does the same for the selection. macOS sends the files; the app itself sends nothing.

Changed

  • Each folder keeps its own view, as in Windows. Pick a view mode, groups or a sort in a folder, or drag a column wider: that folder keeps them, in every tab and window and after a restart. A folder you never set opens with the default view, the one you had before the update, so nothing moves at first. Before, the view went along with the tab to the next folder. To have that back, turn off Options › Folders › Remember each folder's view.

Version 1.1.0

26 September 2026

Breaking changes

  • F2 with several files selected now gives them all the name you type, with a number, as in Windows: Trip (1).jpg, Trip (2).jpg, Trip (3).png. Before, it renamed only the file you were on. Each file keeps its own extension, nothing is ever replaced, and one Undo puts every name back.

New

  • Right click a tab for Duplicate tab, Close tab, Close other tabs and Close tabs to the right, as in Windows 11.
  • A middle click (press the mouse wheel) on a folder opens it in a new tab, behind the one you are in: in the file list, in the search results and in the left panel. A middle click on a tab closes it.
  • Hold Cmd and roll the mouse wheel to make the icons bigger or smaller, one step at a time from Details to Extra large icons. A pinch on the trackpad does the same.
  • Paste a path into the address bar and it opens: in quotes, from Terminal with a \ before each space, or as a file:// link.
  • Drop files on a part of the address bar to move or copy them into that folder. A middle click on a part opens that folder in a new tab.
  • A search with Return can look inside files too: click the magnifier in the search box and tick Search file contents too, or turn it on in Options › General. It then also finds the files whose text holds the words, a PDF or a text file for example. The text comes from Spotlight.
  • Right click a disk for Eject, or a network disk for Disconnect, as in Windows. A tab on the disk moves to a folder that is still there. When an app still uses the disk, the message names the app.
  • Each disk in This Mac shows a thin bar of how full it is. It turns red when less than a tenth is free, and pointing at the disk gives the numbers.

Changed

  • Folders are orange to start with. Options › Folders › Folder colour has the other colours, and macOS blue (normal) for the macOS folder as it is.

Fixed

  • A file renamed in the search results kept its old name in the list, and a command on that row could reach another file that took the old name later. The row now shows the new name.
  • A file deleted or moved away stayed in the search results, and a second Delete on its row could send a newer file of that name to the Trash. The row now leaves the list, in every tab and every window.
  • A disk in the file list, in a tab on /Volumes, offered Delete permanently, which erased every file on it. A disk now has the same menu everywhere, with Eject and no Cut, Rename or Delete, and a key or a drag that would move, rename or delete it says why instead.

Version 1.0.0

25 September 2026

New

  • Apple has verified the app. It carries a Developer ID signature, and Apple has checked it (notarized). On any Mac it opens with only the usual macOS question for an app from the internet. The three steps in Privacy & Security are gone, and so is the pre-release notice.
  • An update goes in only when the new version comes from the same developer as yours: the app checks its Apple signature first.

Changed

  • Full Disk Access now stays after an update. macOS ties the permission to the app's signature, and from this version on the signature stays the same. This update asks for it one last time: in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Full Disk Access, remove the old wizmac-explorer line, add the app again, and start it again. The app shows you how when it cannot read the Trash. macOS also asks once more before the app reads your Desktop, Documents and Downloads.

Fixed

  • Help › Check for Updates showed nothing when the app was up to date, or when the check did not work. It now says so.

Version 0.9.1

25 September 2026

Changed

  • The .dmg window shows the way to the Applications folder, and the three steps of the first start. Apple has not verified the app yet, so macOS blocks it the first time on each Mac: click Done, then Open Anyway in Privacy & Security, then Open Anyway again with your Mac password.

Fixed

  • After Undo, the list selects the file that came back, also when the Mac is busy. Before, it sometimes selected nothing.
  • Install and Restart could say that a copy or a move was still running, long after a short one had ended, until you closed the window. The window now always sees the end of a job.
  • The first window closes for good when you close it while another window stays open. Before, it only went out of sight, and went on following its folder until you quit the app.

Version 0.9.0

24 September 2026

New

  • Help › Support WizIT opens the page where you can give to WizIT, the non-profit association that makes the app. The About box links to it too, and so does the last line of the update window. No window asks you for anything.
  • The About box also links to the price for companies. The app stays free for any non-commercial use, and it never checks a licence.

Version 0.8.1

24 September 2026

Fixed

  • The window no longer freezes at start behind a macOS question about Desktop, Documents or Downloads. The left panel read these folders at every start and after every change in Options, even closed, and macOS asks again after each install and each update. Now the panel reads them only when you open them.
  • The * key in the left panel opens the selected folder, and no folder below it. Before, it opened every folder below as well, and on This Mac the app froze while it read the whole disk.
  • A drag that waits over a closed folder in the left panel opens that folder, so you can drop deeper down. It never did before. Desktop, Documents, Downloads and the other folders macOS asks about open this way once the panel has read them.

Version 0.8.0

24 September 2026

New

  • Check for Updates, in the Help menu. When a new version is out, you see what changed since yours, and one click installs it and opens it again. The tabs come back as you left them.
  • The first start asks whether the app may look for a new version each time it starts. Nothing goes on the internet before you say yes. Help › Check for Updates at Startup and Options › General change your answer.
  • After an update, when macOS took back Full Disk Access, the app shows the steps to give it again, with a button that opens the right page of System Settings.

Version 0.7.3

23 September 2026

Fixed

  • The List view stays still. Before, in a folder with many photos or PDFs, like Downloads, the third column flickered every second, and the Mac stayed busy for as long as the folder was open. A folder with many short names flickered too.
  • Previews are made only for the files on screen, so a big folder of photos or PDFs no longer keeps the Mac working.

Version 0.7.2

23 September 2026

Fixed

  • Two files with the same name in one paste, from search results for example, both arrive. The second one is named report (2).txt. Before, one of them was lost.
  • Replace no longer removes the folder that holds what you move into its place.
  • A copy with Replace onto a link to the same file no longer empties that file.
  • Cancel during a Replace keeps the old file.
  • Copying a folder into a link that leads back inside it is refused. Before, the copy ran on and on until the app quit.
  • A copy of a very deep folder no longer makes the app quit.
  • A pipe in a copy is skipped and named in the message. Before, the copy waited for ever and could not be cancelled.
  • A move out of a folder you may not change leaves the file where it was, and says why. Before, the file ended up in two places.
  • A folder dragged or pasted from Finder keeps its name. Before, a question with no name in it came up, and Replace could write over a file in the folder you dropped it on.
  • Pasting twice in a row, fast, makes two copies. The second one is named report (2).txt. Before, only one arrived.
  • Zipping the same folder twice in the same second makes two zips, and extracting one zip twice at once makes two folders. Before, both jobs could write into the same zip or folder.
  • Undo and Redo stay off until an undo is done, even when another job ends in the meantime. Before, a second undo could start too early.
  • A paste never replaces a file that another job is still copying, moving, zipping, extracting, deleting or undoing. The new file gets a number instead. Before, Replace could lose the old file.
  • A move of a folder to another disk no longer removes a file that arrived or changed in that folder while it was copied. That file stays where it was, and the message names it.
  • Undo of a Move to Trash brings back the file you deleted, also when the Trash holds another file of the same name. Before, it could bring back the older one, and yours stayed in the Trash. Redo of a New Folder had the same fault.
  • When one item cannot go to the Trash, a locked file for example, the others still go, and Undo brings them back. One message names the items that stayed. Before, the delete stopped at that item, and what had gone before it could not be undone.
  • Restore sends each item back to the folder it came from, also after Undo and Redo. Before, an old note could send it to the wrong folder, and a renamed item with accents in its name was not known.
  • After you empty the Trash, Undo of a delete and Redo of a New Folder, a zip or an extract no longer take out another item that went into the Trash under the same name. They say that the item is no longer in the Trash.
  • Redo of a copy no longer writes over a file that took the same name after the Undo. Before, that file was lost for good. The copy now gets a number.
  • When Undo puts a file back as report (2).txt, because another file took its name, the next Redo takes your file, not the other one. The same for a delete, a rename and a New Folder.
  • When Undo or Redo cannot handle an item, the next Redo or Undo leaves that name alone. Before, it could move or trash another file that had the name by then.
  • A pipe in a folder no longer freezes Compress. It is left out, and the message names it. Before, the zip waited for ever, Cancel did nothing, and closing the window quit the app.
  • Names with a \ or a :, like back\slash.txt or a:b.txt, come back out of a zip as they went in. Before, the first one came back as a folder, and the second one could not be extracted.
  • Two files with the same name, from search results for example, both go into one zip. The second one is named report (2).txt. Before, an extract kept only one of them.
  • A file with damaged data in a zip no longer leaves an empty or broken file behind when you extract it.
  • An extract never writes one file of the zip over another one with the same name. The message names the second one.
  • A zip or an extract that fails, in a folder you may not change for example, no longer offers Undo for something that was never made. A zip that nothing could go into is not kept.
  • A link to a folder goes into a zip with all that folder holds. Before, it was left out, or went in as an empty folder. A link that leads nowhere, or back into a folder it is in, is left out, and the message names it.
  • A folder that the app cannot read is named in the Compress message. Before, the zip left it out and said nothing.
  • New Folder and New Text Document refuse a name with a / in it, and say why. Before, a name like ../notes made the folder one level up, and a full path made it in that place.
  • . and .. are refused as names, with the right reason. Before, Rename said the name was already taken, and New Folder made a folder named .. (2).
  • A name that is too long is refused with a plain message. Before, a rename in the list put the old name back with no word.
  • A rename that only changes how an accent is stored, é as one character or as e plus an accent, is no longer refused as a name that is taken.
  • A pasted name that holds an invisible NUL character is refused. Before, a rename in the list could make a stray copy of the file under the first part of the name.
  • Undo of a rename that only changed the letter case, or the way an accent is stored, gives the old name back. Before, README.txt came back as readme (2).txt.
  • The app opens even when a saved setting is broken, after a hand edit for example: the window size, the width of the left panel, the column the list sorts on, or the Quick access list. The app leaves that value out and uses the one it starts with. Before, it did not open at all until its settings were removed.
  • Move to Trash works even when the saved notes of where trashed items came from are broken. Before, it showed an error and offered no Undo.
  • A folder of 20 000 files opens, sorts, filters and changes view in a fraction of a second. Before, each click on a column froze the window for 3 to 5 seconds, a change of groups for up to 10, and six tabs on such a folder for 15.
  • Select all in a big folder no longer freezes the window for 2 seconds.
  • A Refresh or an Undo that selects thousands of files again no longer freezes the window.
  • A file renamed in the list moves to its place in the sorted list at once. Before, it stayed where its old name had put it.
  • Deleting thousands of files for good from the folder you are looking at no longer freezes the window. Before, 20 000 files froze it for more than a minute. The list shows the files until the delete is done, then what is left.
  • Emptying the Trash while you look at it, and moving, pasting or undoing thousands of files in the folder you look at, no longer freeze the window again and again while the list catches up. Before, a paste of 5000 files into the open folder took half a minute to show them all.
  • After you paste thousands of files, all of them are selected. Before, the last ones to arrive could be left out.
  • The end of a job with thousands of files no longer stops the window for seconds. Before, the end of a paste of 20 000 files stood still for almost 2 seconds, and more with many folder sizes shown.
  • Selecting all the files of a big folder while it is still loading freezes the window much less as the rest arrives: 2 seconds instead of 11 for 60 000 files.
  • A search for *[x]* finds the names that hold [x], as in Windows. Before, the brackets read as a choice of letters, and it found every name with an x in it.
  • When the folder a tab shows is renamed, moved or deleted, the tab opens the nearest folder that is still there, and the status bar says so. Before, Refresh left the tab on the old folder, with files that were no longer there.
  • Closing a window while a job still runs no longer makes the app crash. A job that cannot stop at once, like an undo, finishes first, and the window closes after it. Before, the app quit with an error after 3 seconds, and every window with it.

Version 0.7.1

22 September 2026

Fixed

  • A rename that only changes the letter case now works: readme.txt to README.txt.
  • The Size column no longer counts folders on another disk, a network disk or a cloud folder. That could start a long walk over the network.
  • A disk in the left panel no longer stays open on "...".
  • Click to rename opens the name editor on the file you clicked, not on the next one.
  • The Shortcuts page says that Backspace moves to the Trash.
  • The "cannot read this folder" bar no longer shows on cloud folders.
  • Folder sizes no longer stay on "..." when many folders are on screen.
  • Groups by date move to the right group again after midnight.
  • Restore Defaults in Options is faster, and closing Options does not apply everything a second time.

Version 0.7.0

22 September 2026

New

  • The tabs come back. The next start opens the tabs you closed with, in order, each with its own view. You can turn it off in Options › General.
  • Group by date modified, kind or size, from the View menu or the right click menu. Each group has a title with its count.
  • Folder sizes in the Size column, counted in the background. It shows "..." until the number is ready. You can turn it off in Options › Folders.
  • Open with shows each app once, with its own icon, and shows names with an & in them correctly.

Fixed

  • The window no longer freezes for a second and a half with several tabs open.
  • macOS no longer checks the Contacts permission when the app starts.

Version 0.6.0

22 September 2026

New

  • Theme: follow macOS, always light, or always dark. In Options › General.
  • Density: Compact, Standard or Comfortable. It sets how big the icons are and how much room each row gets. Compact is the look of earlier versions.

Changed

  • To give Full Disk Access again after an update, remove the old line and add the app again. Turning the switch off and on is not enough.

Version 0.5.1

21 September 2026

New

  • A new app icon: the WizIT swirl on a folder. It is now the same size as the other icons in the Dock.

Version 0.5.0

21 September 2026

Breaking changes

  • Backspace moves the selected files to the Trash, like Delete. Before, it went up one level. Alt+Up still goes up one level.

New

  • A zip carries the date and time in its name, like Reports_20260921_143005.zip. Zipping the same folder twice never replaces the first zip.
  • Double click a .zip to extract it here, with a progress bar and Undo.
  • Click a row that is already selected to rename it.
  • A rename to a name that is taken, or that holds a /, now says so.

Fixed

  • A cut followed by an empty paste no longer turns the next paste into a copy.
  • A right click below the files no longer opens a menu for a file from the folder before.
  • Pressing Return to end a rename no longer also opens the file.
  • A right click no longer opens the rename editor behind the menu.

Version 0.4.0

21 September 2026

New

  • An Options window, from the toolbar or Cmd+,. Four pages:
    • General: the folder a new window opens in, hidden files, previews, and "Ask before moving files to the Trash".
    • Folders: folders first or mixed with the files, and a folder colour.
    • Mouse & keys: which key forces a copy when you drag, and which forces a move.
    • Shortcuts: every key of the app on one page, with a Copy button.
  • Coloured folders. The real macOS folder icon, in the colour you pick.

Version 0.3.0

20 September 2026

New

  • When macOS does not let the app read a folder, a bar above the list says so and opens the right Privacy & Security page. Without Full Disk Access, the Trash used to look empty.

Fixed

  • The window no longer freezes at start when a network disk is in the left panel. macOS asked a question hidden behind the window.

Version 0.2.1

20 September 2026

Fixed

  • Extracting a zip no longer keeps special permission bits on the files.
  • The status bar says so when a cancelled copy has been cleaned up.
  • Small fixes to the cloud mark and to background jobs.

Version 0.2.0

19 September 2026

New

  • It remembers how you left it: window size and place, left panel width, view mode, sort column and the View toggles.
  • Cmd+W on the last tab closes the window, like Windows Explorer.
  • The address bar finishes a folder path as you type, and ~ means your home folder.
  • Type the path of a file in the address bar to open it.
  • Paste a file where it already is and it gets a " - Copy" name at once, with no question.
  • The Trash of every disk shows in the left panel, and Empty Trash empties them all.
  • Search asks Spotlight first: a whole home folder answers in about a second.
  • * and ? work as wildcards in the search box: *.pdf finds the PDFs.
  • Refresh keeps the selection and the scroll position.
  • Copy, move, zip, delete and Empty Trash run in the background, with a progress window you can cancel. Big folders no longer freeze the window.
  • A copy keeps Finder tags, colour labels and "Where from".
  • A zip keeps the dates and empty folders, and extracting gives them back.

Fixed

  • Back and Forward now work after a double click, Return or a search result.
  • The Rename dialog no longer replaces another file, and a / in a name no longer moves the file.
  • Quick access keeps the shortcut of a disk that is not plugged in.
  • Quitting during a copy no longer crashes the app.
  • A cancelled copy removes the half written file.
  • A closed window frees its memory.
  • The preview cache is capped, so a long session with photos no longer uses gigabytes.
  • File names with <, > or & show correctly in Properties.
