• View › Apply to All Folders makes every folder look like the one you are in, and View › Reset All Folders puts every folder back to Details, sorted by name. Options › Folders has the same two buttons.
• Right click a file or a folder for Create shortcut, as in Windows: a shortcut named Report.pdf - Shortcut appears next to it. It is a macOS alias, so Finder shows it with its arrow, and it still finds the original after a move. A double click on a shortcut opens the folder or the file it points to, and the Kind column says Shortcut. Properties shows the place it points to.
• After Copy or Cut, right click empty space or a folder for Paste shortcut: it makes a shortcut there to each item you copied, and leaves the clipboard as it is.
• Right click files or folders for AirDrop..., as *Nearby sharing* in Windows: the macOS AirDrop window opens with them, and you pick a device nearby. File › AirDrop... does the same for the selection. macOS sends the files; the app itself sends nothing.

Changed

• Each folder keeps its own view, as in Windows. Pick a view mode, groups or a sort in a folder, or drag a column wider: that folder keeps them, in every tab and window and after a restart. A folder you never set opens with the default view, the one you had before the update, so nothing moves at first. Before, the view went along with the tab to the next folder. To have that back, turn off Options › Folders › Remember each folder's view.

Breaking changes

• F2 with several files selected now gives them all the name you type, with a number, as in Windows: Trip (1).jpg, Trip (2).jpg, Trip (3).png. Before, it renamed only the file you were on. Each file keeps its own extension, nothing is ever replaced, and one Undo puts every name back.

New

• Right click a tab for Duplicate tab, Close tab, Close other tabs and Close tabs to the right, as in Windows 11.
• A middle click (press the mouse wheel) on a folder opens it in a new tab, behind the one you are in: in the file list, in the search results and in the left panel. A middle click on a tab closes it.
• Hold Cmd and roll the mouse wheel to make the icons bigger or smaller, one step at a time from Details to Extra large icons. A pinch on the trackpad does the same.
• Paste a path into the address bar and it opens: in quotes, from Terminal with a \ before each space, or as a file:// link.
• Drop files on a part of the address bar to move or copy them into that folder. A middle click on a part opens that folder in a new tab.
• A search with Return can look inside files too: click the magnifier in the search box and tick Search file contents too, or turn it on in Options › General. It then also finds the files whose text holds the words, a PDF or a text file for example. The text comes from Spotlight.
• Right click a disk for Eject, or a network disk for Disconnect, as in Windows. A tab on the disk moves to a folder that is still there. When an app still uses the disk, the message names the app.
• Each disk in This Mac shows a thin bar of how full it is. It turns red when less than a tenth is free, and pointing at the disk gives the numbers.

Changed

• Folders are orange to start with. Options › Folders › Folder colour has the other colours, and macOS blue (normal) for the macOS folder as it is.

Fixed

• A file renamed in the search results kept its old name in the list, and a command on that row could reach another file that took the old name later. The row now shows the new name.
• A file deleted or moved away stayed in the search results, and a second Delete on its row could send a newer file of that name to the Trash. The row now leaves the list, in every tab and every window.
• A disk in the file list, in a tab on /Volumes, offered Delete permanently, which erased every file on it. A disk now has the same menu everywhere, with Eject and no Cut, Rename or Delete, and a key or a drag that would move, rename or delete it says why instead.

• Apple has verified the app. It carries a Developer ID signature, and Apple has checked it (notarized). On any Mac it opens with only the usual macOS question for an app from the internet. The three steps in Privacy & Security are gone, and so is the pre-release notice.
• An update goes in only when the new version comes from the same developer as yours: the app checks its Apple signature first.

Changed

• Full Disk Access now stays after an update. macOS ties the permission to the app's signature, and from this version on the signature stays the same. This update asks for it one last time: in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Full Disk Access, remove the old wizmac-explorer line, add the app again, and start it again. The app shows you how when it cannot read the Trash. macOS also asks once more before the app reads your Desktop, Documents and Downloads.

Fixed

• Help › Check for Updates showed nothing when the app was up to date, or when the check did not work. It now says so.

Version 0.9.1

Changed

• The .dmg window shows the way to the Applications folder, and the three steps of the first start. Apple has not verified the app yet, so macOS blocks it the first time on each Mac: click Done, then Open Anyway in Privacy & Security, then Open Anyway again with your Mac password.

Fixed

• After Undo, the list selects the file that came back, also when the Mac is busy. Before, it sometimes selected nothing.
• Install and Restart could say that a copy or a move was still running, long after a short one had ended, until you closed the window. The window now always sees the end of a job.
• The first window closes for good when you close it while another window stays open. Before, it only went out of sight, and went on following its folder until you quit the app.

• Help › Support WizIT opens the page where you can give to WizIT, the non-profit association that makes the app. The About box links to it too, and so does the last line of the update window. No window asks you for anything.
• The About box also links to the price for companies. The app stays free for any non-commercial use, and it never checks a licence.

Fixed

• The window no longer freezes at start behind a macOS question about Desktop, Documents or Downloads. The left panel read these folders at every start and after every change in Options, even closed, and macOS asks again after each install and each update. Now the panel reads them only when you open them.
• The * key in the left panel opens the selected folder, and no folder below it. Before, it opened every folder below as well, and on This Mac the app froze while it read the whole disk.
• A drag that waits over a closed folder in the left panel opens that folder, so you can drop deeper down. It never did before. Desktop, Documents, Downloads and the other folders macOS asks about open this way once the panel has read them.

• Check for Updates, in the Help menu. When a new version is out, you see what changed since yours, and one click installs it and opens it again. The tabs come back as you left them.
• The first start asks whether the app may look for a new version each time it starts. Nothing goes on the internet before you say yes. Help › Check for Updates at Startup and Options › General change your answer.
• After an update, when macOS took back Full Disk Access, the app shows the steps to give it again, with a button that opens the right page of System Settings.

Fixed

• The List view stays still. Before, in a folder with many photos or PDFs, like Downloads, the third column flickered every second, and the Mac stayed busy for as long as the folder was open. A folder with many short names flickered too.
• Previews are made only for the files on screen, so a big folder of photos or PDFs no longer keeps the Mac working.

• Two files with the same name in one paste, from search results for example, both arrive. The second one is named report (2).txt. Before, one of them was lost.
• Replace no longer removes the folder that holds what you move into its place.
• A copy with Replace onto a link to the same file no longer empties that file.
• Cancel during a Replace keeps the old file.
• Copying a folder into a link that leads back inside it is refused. Before, the copy ran on and on until the app quit.
• A copy of a very deep folder no longer makes the app quit.
• A pipe in a copy is skipped and named in the message. Before, the copy waited for ever and could not be cancelled.
• A move out of a folder you may not change leaves the file where it was, and says why. Before, the file ended up in two places.
• A folder dragged or pasted from Finder keeps its name. Before, a question with no name in it came up, and Replace could write over a file in the folder you dropped it on.
• Pasting twice in a row, fast, makes two copies. The second one is named report (2).txt. Before, only one arrived.
• Zipping the same folder twice in the same second makes two zips, and extracting one zip twice at once makes two folders. Before, both jobs could write into the same zip or folder.
• Undo and Redo stay off until an undo is done, even when another job ends in the meantime. Before, a second undo could start too early.
• A paste never replaces a file that another job is still copying, moving, zipping, extracting, deleting or undoing. The new file gets a number instead. Before, Replace could lose the old file.
• A move of a folder to another disk no longer removes a file that arrived or changed in that folder while it was copied. That file stays where it was, and the message names it.
• Undo of a Move to Trash brings back the file you deleted, also when the Trash holds another file of the same name. Before, it could bring back the older one, and yours stayed in the Trash. Redo of a New Folder had the same fault.
• When one item cannot go to the Trash, a locked file for example, the others still go, and Undo brings them back. One message names the items that stayed. Before, the delete stopped at that item, and what had gone before it could not be undone.
• Restore sends each item back to the folder it came from, also after Undo and Redo. Before, an old note could send it to the wrong folder, and a renamed item with accents in its name was not known.
• After you empty the Trash, Undo of a delete and Redo of a New Folder, a zip or an extract no longer take out another item that went into the Trash under the same name. They say that the item is no longer in the Trash.
• Redo of a copy no longer writes over a file that took the same name after the Undo. Before, that file was lost for good. The copy now gets a number.
• When Undo puts a file back as report (2).txt, because another file took its name, the next Redo takes your file, not the other one. The same for a delete, a rename and a New Folder.
• When Undo or Redo cannot handle an item, the next Redo or Undo leaves that name alone. Before, it could move or trash another file that had the name by then.
• A pipe in a folder no longer freezes Compress. It is left out, and the message names it. Before, the zip waited for ever, Cancel did nothing, and closing the window quit the app.
• Names with a \ or a :, like back\slash.txt or a:b.txt, come back out of a zip as they went in. Before, the first one came back as a folder, and the second one could not be extracted.
• Two files with the same name, from search results for example, both go into one zip. The second one is named report (2).txt. Before, an extract kept only one of them.
• A file with damaged data in a zip no longer leaves an empty or broken file behind when you extract it.
• An extract never writes one file of the zip over another one with the same name. The message names the second one.
• A zip or an extract that fails, in a folder you may not change for example, no longer offers Undo for something that was never made. A zip that nothing could go into is not kept.
• A link to a folder goes into a zip with all that folder holds. Before, it was left out, or went in as an empty folder. A link that leads nowhere, or back into a folder it is in, is left out, and the message names it.
• A folder that the app cannot read is named in the Compress message. Before, the zip left it out and said nothing.
• New Folder and New Text Document refuse a name with a / in it, and say why. Before, a name like ../notes made the folder one level up, and a full path made it in that place.
• . and .. are refused as names, with the right reason. Before, Rename said the name was already taken, and New Folder made a folder named .. (2).
• A name that is too long is refused with a plain message. Before, a rename in the list put the old name back with no word.
• A rename that only changes how an accent is stored, é as one character or as e plus an accent, is no longer refused as a name that is taken.
• A pasted name that holds an invisible NUL character is refused. Before, a rename in the list could make a stray copy of the file under the first part of the name.
• Undo of a rename that only changed the letter case, or the way an accent is stored, gives the old name back. Before, README.txt came back as readme (2).txt.
• The app opens even when a saved setting is broken, after a hand edit for example: the window size, the width of the left panel, the column the list sorts on, or the Quick access list. The app leaves that value out and uses the one it starts with. Before, it did not open at all until its settings were removed.
• Move to Trash works even when the saved notes of where trashed items came from are broken. Before, it showed an error and offered no Undo.
• A folder of 20 000 files opens, sorts, filters and changes view in a fraction of a second. Before, each click on a column froze the window for 3 to 5 seconds, a change of groups for up to 10, and six tabs on such a folder for 15.
• Select all in a big folder no longer freezes the window for 2 seconds.
• A Refresh or an Undo that selects thousands of files again no longer freezes the window.
• A file renamed in the list moves to its place in the sorted list at once. Before, it stayed where its old name had put it.
• Deleting thousands of files for good from the folder you are looking at no longer freezes the window. Before, 20 000 files froze it for more than a minute. The list shows the files until the delete is done, then what is left.
• Emptying the Trash while you look at it, and moving, pasting or undoing thousands of files in the folder you look at, no longer freeze the window again and again while the list catches up. Before, a paste of 5000 files into the open folder took half a minute to show them all.
• After you paste thousands of files, all of them are selected. Before, the last ones to arrive could be left out.
• The end of a job with thousands of files no longer stops the window for seconds. Before, the end of a paste of 20 000 files stood still for almost 2 seconds, and more with many folder sizes shown.
• Selecting all the files of a big folder while it is still loading freezes the window much less as the rest arrives: 2 seconds instead of 11 for 60 000 files.
• A search for *[x]* finds the names that hold [x], as in Windows. Before, the brackets read as a choice of letters, and it found every name with an x in it.
• When the folder a tab shows is renamed, moved or deleted, the tab opens the nearest folder that is still there, and the status bar says so. Before, Refresh left the tab on the old folder, with files that were no longer there.
• Closing a window while a job still runs no longer makes the app crash. A job that cannot stop at once, like an undo, finishes first, and the window closes after it. Before, the app quit with an error after 3 seconds, and every window with it.

Fixed

• A rename that only changes the letter case now works: readme.txt to README.txt.
• The Size column no longer counts folders on another disk, a network disk or a cloud folder. That could start a long walk over the network.
• A disk in the left panel no longer stays open on "...".
• Click to rename opens the name editor on the file you clicked, not on the next one.
• The Shortcuts page says that Backspace moves to the Trash.
• The "cannot read this folder" bar no longer shows on cloud folders.
• Folder sizes no longer stay on "..." when many folders are on screen.
• Groups by date move to the right group again after midnight.
• Restore Defaults in Options is faster, and closing Options does not apply everything a second time.

• The tabs come back. The next start opens the tabs you closed with, in order, each with its own view. You can turn it off in Options › General.
• Group by date modified, kind or size, from the View menu or the right click menu. Each group has a title with its count.
• Folder sizes in the Size column, counted in the background. It shows "..." until the number is ready. You can turn it off in Options › Folders.
• Open with shows each app once, with its own icon, and shows names with an & in them correctly.

Fixed

• The window no longer freezes for a second and a half with several tabs open.
• macOS no longer checks the Contacts permission when the app starts.

Breaking changes

• Backspace moves the selected files to the Trash, like Delete. Before, it went up one level. Alt+Up still goes up one level.

• A zip carries the date and time in its name, like Reports_20260921_143005.zip. Zipping the same folder twice never replaces the first zip.
• Double click a .zip to extract it here, with a progress bar and Undo.
• Click a row that is already selected to rename it.
• A rename to a name that is taken, or that holds a /, now says so.

Fixed

• A cut followed by an empty paste no longer turns the next paste into a copy.
• A right click below the files no longer opens a menu for a file from the folder before.
• Pressing Return to end a rename no longer also opens the file.
